5 Days Dolomiti Paganella: Kittilsen and Karlsson still on the podium

For the Stage 3 of 5 Days Dolomiti Paganella, an iconic map of the Brenta Dolomites and Italian orienteering, in the town of Spormaggiore: Mount Fausior, a mountain of unique beauty that rises above the terrace of Fai della Paganella and the Adige Valley, overlooking, on the opposite side, the wide expanses of Val di Non and the limestone spires of the Brenta Dolomites. 

The Long Distance course was particularly challenging, both from a physical and technical point of view, starting with the uphill start. It was, therefore, crucial to arrive mentally clear-headed at the first checkpoints in order to properly approach the rest of the race as well, with arrival set near the Malga Val dei Brenzi, at an altitude of 1194 meters. 

All the orienteers had to demonstrate, between ascents and descents, their ability to navigate between the various points, often classic and clearly visible as rocks, potholes, depressions, because losing the correct course would have meant a lot of effort to get back to the right area. 

In the men’s elite category, on a 7.6 km course with 450 meters of elevation gain and 21 checkpoints, the protagonists of the Cavedago stage return to the podium on Mount Fausior as well: this time Vegard Kittilsen (NOR, 55’43”) gets the better of Sindre Østgulen Deisz (NOR, 58’29”) and Kornelius Kriszat-Iovfald (NOR, 58’45”).

In the women’s field, on a 6.4 km course with 360 meters of elevation gain and 18 checkpoints, great confirmation for Helena Karlsson (SWE, 59’39”) as the fastest, with Ida Øbro (DEN, 1h02’35”) finishing second and Kristin Melby Jacobsen (NOR, 1h02’48”) advancing to third.

5 Days Dolomiti Paganella: Kittilsen e Karlsson ancora sul podio

Per lo Stage 3 di 5 Days Dolomiti Paganella una tappa iconica delle Dolomiti di Brenta e dell’orienteering italiano, nel Comune di Spormaggiore: il Monte Fausior, una montagna dalla bellezza unica nel suo genere, che si innalza sopra il terrazzo di Fai della Paganella e sulla Valle dell’Adige, affacciandosi, sul versante opposto, verso le ampie distese della Val di Non e sulle guglie calcaree delle Dolomiti di Brenta. 

Il tracciato della Long Distance è risultato particolarmente sfidante, sia da un punto di vista fisico sia tecnico, a partire dalla partenza in salita. È stato, quindi, cruciale arrivare mentalmente lucidi ai primi punti di controllo per approcciare correttamente anche il resto del percorso, con arrivo fissato in prossimità della Malga Val dei Brenzi, a 1194 metri di altitudine. 

Tutti gli orientisti hanno dovuto dimostrare, tra salite e discese, la propria capacità di navigazione tra i vari punti, spesso classici e ben visibili come rocce, buche, avvallamenti, perché perdere la corretta rotta avrebbe comportato molta fatica per tornare nella giusta zona. 

Nella categoria elite maschile, su un tracciato di 7.6 km con 450 metri di dislivello e 21 punti di controllo, anche sul Monte Fausior tornano sul podio i protagonisti della tappa di Cavedago: questa volta è Vegard Kittilsen (NOR, 55’43”) ad avere la meglio su Sindre Østgulen Deisz (NOR, 58’29”) e Kornelius Kriszat-Iovfald (NOR, 58’45”).

Al femminile, su un tracciato di 6.4 km con 360 metri di dislivello e 18 punti di controllo, grande conferma per Helena Karlsson (SWE, 59’39”), che risulta ancora la più veloce, con la seconda posizione in classifica di Ida Øbro (DEN, 1h02’35”) e l’avanzata in terza di Kristin Melby Jacobsen (NOR, 1h02’48”).
