All numbers of 5 Days of Italy

Only a few days have passed since the closure of the international event and the strong emotions of this wonderful 2023 edition in the Dolomites of Centro Cadore are still alive in us!

A success in terms of participation and sporting spectacle made possible by the 1,200 orienteers competing from 39 different countries around the world, among which the absolute winners Megan Carter-Davies (Great Britain) and Toby Scott (New Zealand) stood out. Today we want to tell you just some of the numbers that testify to our immense satisfaction and prompt us once again to thank you!

AN EVENT FOR ALL AGES

The 39 countries of origin of the orienteers are a new record for the event, never so many have been present in previous editions. Sweden was the nation with the highest number of entries with 180 athletes. Another big news is the participation, for the first time in the history of 5 Days of Italy, of orienteers from Montenegro, Algeria and Egypt. In addition to the 69 Elite men and women at the starting blocks, 38 categories were represented, including the M55 (men over 55 years of age) with 49 enthusiasts.

The age groups competing were really varied, from the Norwegian Martin Lian of only 4 years to the Swiss Henri Repond of 91 years. Furthermore, 6 Easy and Difficult Direct were organized with 3 different lengths (Short, Easy, Long), in which 952 people took part.

A SUPER STAFF ON THE FIELD

Fifty members made up the official staff, with the support of the 3 international ambassadors Emil Wingstedt, Jörgen Mårtensson, and Bjorklund Anders. The carrying out of the challenges was possible thanks to the creation of 9 maps (6 forests and 3 urban) for 14.74 square km of mapped territory and 8205 distributed maps.

Excellent feedback also for the Young Leaders Academy, the first training course promoted by the IOF (International Federation of Orientation) aimed at 23 young people from 13 countries aged between 16 and 25 to support their talent and skills in the field development of orienteering (train-the-trainers), but also an opportunity to network (connect worldwide).

THE SUPPORT OF LOCAL INSTITUTIONS AND PARTNERS

The support of the institutions that teamed up for 5 Days of Italy, under the aegis of the Italian Federation of Orienteering Sports, is fundamental. In the forefront of the Veneto Region and the Province of Belluno, in collaboration with the Unione Montana Centro Cadore and the Municipalities of Auronzo di Cadore, Calalzo di Cadore, Comelico Superiore, Domegge di Cadore, Lorenzago di Cadore, Lozzo di Cadore, Perarolo di Cadore, Pieve di Cadore, Vigo di Cadore, together with the DMO Dolomiti Bellunesi Foundation and the Magnificent Community of Cadore.

The event was accompanied by the Seas volunteers for the rescue service, the Alpini from the Ana Group of Pieve di Cadore and the Municipal Police of Pieve di Cadore. Local partners were also protagonists of the kermesse accompanying the event. Among the numerous prizes awarded 210 kg of delicious apples supplied by Melinda, 38 kg of Piave Mezzano and Stravecchio cheese delivered by the Consortium for the Protection of Piave DOP Cheese, and 76 bottles of wine from the Pian delle Vette cellar. Together with the 38 prize bottles, Birra Dolomiti supplied 270 liters of beer drunk on the competition field. The participants also received the race packs made by Ladurner.

The next edition will be in 2024 on the Paganella Dolomites.

Sono trascorsi solo pochi giorni dalla chiusura della manifestazione internazionale e sono ancora vive in noi le forti emozioni di questa meravigliosa edizione 2023 nelle Dolomiti del Centro Cadore! 

Un successo in termini di partecipazione e di spettacolo sportivo reso possibile dai 1200 orientisti in gara provenienti da 39 diversi Paesi del mondo, tra cui hanno spiccato i vincitori assoluti Megan Carter-Davies (Gran Bretagna) e Toby Scott (Nuova Zelanda). Oggi vogliamo raccontarvi solo alcuni dei numeri che testimoniano la nostra immensa soddisfazione e ci spingono ancora una volta a ringraziarvi!

UN EVENTO PER TUTTE LE ETÀ

I 39 Paesi di origine degli orientisti sono un nuovo record per la manifestazione, mai così tanti sono stati presenti nelle precedenti edizioni. La Svezia con 180 atleti è stata la nazione con il maggior numero di iscritti. Grande novità anche la partecipazione, per la prima volta nella storia di 5 Days of Italy, di orientisti da Montenegro, Algeria ed Egitto. Oltre ai 69 Elite ai blocchi di partenza, tra uomini e donne, sono state ben 38 le categorie rappresentate, tra cui svetta la M55 (uomini over 55 anni di età) con 49 appassionati. 

Davvero variegate le fasce di età in competizione, dal norvegese Martin Lian di solo 4 anni allo svizzero Henri Repond di 91 anni. Sono state, inoltre, organizzate 6 Direct Easy e Difficult con 3 diverse lunghezze (Short, Easy, Long), a cui hanno preso parte 952 persone. 

UN SUPER STAFF SUL CAMPO

Cinquanta membri hanno composto lo staff ufficiale, con il supporto dei 3 ambassador internazionali Emil Wingstedt, Jörgen Mårtensson e Bjorklund Anders. Lo svolgimento delle sfide è stato possibile grazie alla realizzazione di 9 mappe (6 forest e 3 urban) per la bellezza di 14,74 km quadrati di territorio cartografati e 8205 mappe distribuite. 

Ottimo riscontro anche per la Young Leaders Academy, il primo percorso formativo promosso dalla IOF (Federazione Internazionale di Orientamento) rivolto a 23 giovani provenienti da 13 nazioni di età compresa tra i 16 e i 25 anni per sostenere il proprio talento e le proprie competenze in materia di sviluppo dell’orienteering (train-the-trainers), ma anche un’opportunità per fare rete (connect worldwide).

IL SUPPORTO DELLE ISTITUZIONI E DEI PARTNER LOCALI

Fondamentale il supporto delle istituzioni che hanno fatto squadra per 5 Days of Italy, sotto l’egida della Federazione Italiana Sport Orientamento. In prima linea Regione Veneto e Provincia di Belluno, in collaborazione con Unione Montana Centro Cadore e Comuni di Auronzo di Cadore, Calalzo di Cadore, Comelico Superiore, Domegge di Cadore, Lorenzago di Cadore, Lozzo di Cadore, Perarolo di Cadore, Pieve di Cadore, Vigo di Cadore, insieme a Fondazione DMO Dolomiti Bellunesi e Magnifica Comunità di Cadore. 

Ad accompagnare l’evento i volontari Seas per il servizio di soccorso, gli Alpini del Gruppo Ana di Pieve di Cadore e la Polizia Municipale di Pieve di Cadore. Anche i partner locali sono stati protagonisti della kermesse accompagnando l’evento. Tra i numerosi premi consegnati 210 kg di buonissime mele fornite da Melinda, 38 kg di formaggio Piave Mezzano e Stravecchio consegnati dal Consorzio per la Tutela del Formaggio Piave DOP e 76 bottiglie di vino della cantina Pian delle Vette. Insieme alle 38 bottiglie premio, Birra Dolomiti ha fornito 270 litri di birra bevuti sul campo gara. I partecipanti hanno, inoltre, ricevuto i pacchi gara realizzati da Ladurner.
