5 Days: the words of Michele Viola, president of Dolomiti Paganella
5 Days lovers have already gotten to know Dolomiti Paganella in 2021 when the beautiful Trentino plateau first welcomed the event. Michele Viola, President of Dolomiti Paganella, now tells us how the area is once again ready to host the exciting challenges with map and compass.
What prompted you to host this event again for the 2024 edition?
“The 2021 edition was a great challenge for the location because it hosted the first international event since Covid. Seeing so many athletes of all ages and nations attending our meadows, forests and mountains symbolized a restart. We loved the orienteers for their connection to nature, their desire to experience it fully and discover every corner of the plateau”.

For those orienteers who are not familiar with Dolomiti Paganella, what territory are they also about to discover thanks to the orienteering?
“This is a territory that in its small size encapsulates the amazing nature of Trentino and offers unforgettable experiences at any time of the year! In just a few minutes from the highway exit, you are already captured by an environment of rare beauty: the Brenta Dolomites reflected in the crystal-clear waters of the Molveno and Nembia lakes, the Paganella that offers the most beautiful view in Trentino to trekkers and skiers, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and again the Respiro Park, the wildlife area, home to the great carnivores of the Alps, and the characteristic vineyards and apple orchards of the Piana Rotaliana.
400 km of bike trails, countless paths for trekking lovers, 40 playgrounds, educational farms and thematic trails among wide meadows and forests, 50 km of wide and sunny ski slopes, 1,500 plant species, 125 accommodation facilities, 22 refuges, more than 40 wineries and farms and as many as 8,000 chamois living in the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. The Tourism Company Dolomiti Paganella, moreover, is the first in Italy and one of the first in Europe to have become a Benefit Company to promote not only the riches and beauty of the area but also a new model of tourism under the banner of sustainability and attention to the resident community”.

How are you preparing to welcome the 5 Days orienteers?
“The offer of the territory is wide and varied, and we want all athletes to appreciate our landscapes, flavors, and traditions. That’s why we have activated a network of free transportation to ensure travel between villages during the event. We are organizing convivial moments where athletes and families can also get to know the territory through the dishes and products of Trentino cuisine”.
His message to the orienteers who will compete in July in the territory.
“Dear athletes, we look forward to seeing all of you give color to our trails and villages. We are sure that here with us, you will feel at home, because we share the same love of sports, togetherness and nature. We are doing our best to make sure you have an unforgettable 5 Days. I fedelissimi di 5 Days hanno già avuto modo di conoscere Dolomiti Paganella nel 2021, quando il meraviglioso altopiano trentino accolse per la prima volta l’evento. Michele Viola, Presidente di Dolomiti Paganella, ci racconta ora come il territorio sia nuovamente pronto a ospitare le avvincenti sfide con mappa e bussola.
Cosa vi ha spinto ad accogliere anche per l’edizione 2024 questa manifestazione?
“L’edizione 2021 è stata una grande sfida per la località, perchè ha accolto il primo evento internazionale dopo il Covid. Vedere così tanti atleti di tutte le età e nazioni frequentare i nostri prati, boschi e montagne per noi ha simboleggiato la ripartenza. Abbiamo amato gli orientisti per il loro legame con la natura, la voglia di viverla appieno e di scoprire ogni angolo dell’altopiano”.
Per gli orientisti che non conoscessero Dolomiti Paganella, quale territorio si apprestano a scoprire anche grazie alla corsa orientamento?
“Si tratta di un territorio che nel suo piccolo racchiude la sorprendente natura del Trentino e offre indimenticabili esperienze in ogni momento dell’anno! In pochi minuti dall’uscita dell’autostrada si è già catturati da un ambiente di rara bellezza: le Dolomiti di Brenta che si specchiano nelle acque cristalline dei laghi di Molveno e Nembia, la Paganella che regala la vista più bella del Trentino a trekkers e sciatori, uno dei Borghi più belli d’Italia e ancora il Parco del Respiro, l’area faunistica, casa dei grandi carnivori delle Alpi e i caratteristici vigneti e meleti della Piana Rotaliana.
400 km di percorsi bike, innumerevoli sentieri per gli amanti del trekking, 40 parchi giochi, fattorie didattiche e sentieri tematici tra ampi prati e boschi, 50 km di piste da sci ampie e soleggiate, 1500 specie di piante, 125 strutture ricettive, 22 rifugi, oltre 40 cantine ed aziende agricole e ben 8.000 camosci che vivono nel Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta. L’Azienda per il Turismo Dolomiti Paganella, inoltre, è la prima in Italia e una delle prime in Europa a essere diventata una Società benefit per promuovere non solo le ricchezze e le bellezze del territorio, ma anche un nuovo modello di turismo all’insegna della sostenibilità e dell’attenzione verso la comunità residente”.
Come vi state preparando ad accogliere gli orientisti di 5 Days?
“L’offerta del territorio è ampia e variegata e vogliamo che tutti gli atleti possano apprezzare i nostri paesaggi, sapori e tradizioni. Per questo abbiamo attivato una rete di trasporti gratuiti che garantiscano gli spostamenti tra un paese e l’altro durante l’evento. Stiamo organizzando dei momenti conviviali dove atleti e famiglie possono conoscere il territorio anche attraverso i piatti e prodotti della cucina trentina”.
Un suo messaggio agli orientisti che si sfideranno a luglio sul territorio.
“Cari atleti, non vediamo l’ora di vedere tutti voi dare colore ai nostri sentieri e paesi. Siamo sicuri che qui da noi, vi sentirete come a casa, perché condividiamo lo stesso amore per lo sport, lo stare insieme e la natura. Stiamo facendo del nostro meglio per assicurarvi una 5 Days indimenticabile. Vi aspettiamo numerosi!”
